Koestler Competition Between 2004 and 2007 Jacqueline was one of three judges, including Anna Robinson, of the poetry section for the Koestler Competition. This competition awards artistic excellence in Prisons. The Koestler Trust was set up in 1962 by the writer Arthur Koestler. "The Koestler Awards Scheme is an annual nation-wide competition which encourages and rewards a variety of creative endeavours. The categories include Art, Craft, Music and Creative Writing, Photography and Computer-based Design. In 2004 there were over 4,000 entries from prisons, young offender institutions, secure units, and high security psychiatric hospitals. The scheme also encourages referrals from the Probation Service, and extends to British prisoners in foreign jails via Prisoners Abroad, and now to certain prisoners on Death Row in the United States." from The Koestler Trust website |
